“It will always evolve and change. No exercise program should remain fixed. Our bodies respond to variety in dynamic movement.”

Exercise shouldn’t be a chore…

I first fell in love with exercise in 1994 at the Lotte Berk Method. Prior to that, I only ever played field hockey and basketball and did the Jane Fonda workout tape every once in a while. I never pictured myself as graceful. I always had a few extra pounds on me. Lotte changed all that. I could barely afford to do twice a week at the hefty price of $20/class back then, but I loved it. The challenge, the grit, the ritual and yes the burn. That was then. I was in my 20’s. I also lit up a Marlboro light after every class right on Madison Avenue, practically in front of the studio. That was then.

Just two years, later, I got into a Pilates Certification program. Lotte didn’t do teacher trainings but for their NY staffers and I had sadly left NYC. Pilates had to do but I took my barre roots with me and began teaching classes that fused barre and Pilates together. I taught as I moved around the country with my family-Oregon, Virginia and finally Oakland where I set up my own small space in 2004 that quickly, one year later turned into a larger space on Piedmont Avenue. I remained there for 15 very happy and learned years. There, most of my clients had injuries and chronic pain. They weren’t the dancers and performers that are associated with Pilates, Pilates exercises and frankly, pilates trainings. So I created my own spin off so to speak.

A good number of my clients were over 50 and were getting diagnosed with Osteoporosis. Act the time, there wasn’t much fitness info out there and most were discouraged about taking medicine and fearful of falling or injuring themselves during exercise. That was when I decided to direct my focus to bone and spine health. That was more than 10 years ago, and I’ve been honing the osteoporosis program that is now, BoneCentrics.™ But it’s not just for those with osteoporosis or osteopenia. BoneCentrics is for anyone interested in improving their posture, balance, spinal strength and stability. Those with neck pain, back pain and other postural issues will benefit as well.
